True
False
I feel fat.
I worry about what I will eat.
I get anxious if I don’t exercise.
I feel guilty or worry about what I have eaten.
I will not let certain foods be in my kitchen.
If I gain weight, I get anxious and/or depressed.
I eat in secret.
I am really sensitive if anyone says anything about my body.
If I were thinner, I would like myself better.
When I eat, I am afraid that I won’t be able to stop.
I feel guilty when I eat.
I am hardly ever satisfied with myself.
I vomit or take laxatives to control my weight.
I have avoided social events because of my eating or weight.
When I eat, I feel bloated and fat.
I want to be thinner than my friends.
I binge eat.
I have been on many diets to lose weight.
In romantic moments, I cannot relax and let go because I am worried about my fat and flab.

As strange as it seems in our appearance obsessed society, none of the above behaviors is healthy. Most women may check two of the above statements as “true.” The more “true” statements you have checked, the more you will benefit from counseling to make peace with eating and your body. You can stop trying harder and find freedom from these “truths.”
