Group Counseling

Many people feel isolated and lonely, especially when they live in Orange County. After you are out of school, it can be difficult to create connections and relationships with others in a significant way.

I believe that being the member of a group can give you the support, connection and sense of belonging that may be missing in your life. I love the opportunity that group counseling offers to share personal tools and strategies that are tried, true and tested to bring relief and create the results that you can believe in.

What if you do not like groups?

Many people hate the thought of joining a group. The objections range from “there are too many people in the group” to “there is no guidance” to “some people take up all the time” to “I hate walking in a room with strangers.” I understand the reluctance to join a group and the format of my groups is designed to address many of these concerns. Also remember that group counseling is not the same as a Twelve Step meeting.

Group counseling designed to succeed.

The groups that I offer are limited in the number of members – it is almost like semi-private therapy. Once the group is established, it will be “closed” so new people will not be joining. This structure is designed to create safety and a sense of belonging. I am present to manage the process for the members (unlike groups without a facilitator) and offer my therapeutic skills and tools as well as structure. The groups are organized with an agenda around themes such as dissolving your fears, being able to say “no”, discovering your life purpose, dealing with loss and life changes, ending emotional eating, coming to peace with your body, and creating your own success.

What can a group do?

The research shows that groups are an extraordinarily powerful way to create lasting and rapid healing. The value of groups is that you truly realize that you are not alone with your feelings and struggles. You also have the benefit of multiple perspectives. Group counseling can also be a more affordable option for you than individual therapy.

Is this true for you?

Would you like to find the members of your “tribe”? Would you love to feel less isolated? Would you love to have support so that you don’t have to do it all by yourself? Would you like to be able to tell the truth about what is going on in your life to people who care?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you may want to join a group. Remember that it is not about trying harder. It may be about trying something different. We can figure out what works for you!
